Renewing
- Sign in and open Domain.
- Select the domain and use Renew.
- Auto-renew is configured per domain under the same page.
Turning on transfer lock
Under the domain's Transfer or Lock settings. Gandi labels it as protection against transfer.
Moving the notices somewhere safe
Gandi distinguishes between the owner, administrative, technical and billing contacts. Renewal notices go to the owner and billing contacts, so both need to be current.
Worth knowing about Gandi
Gandi's separate contact roles are genuinely useful for handovers, because the owner contact can stay with the business while the technical contact changes with whoever maintains the site.
The three that actually prevent a lapse
- A payment card that is current. An expired card with auto-renew on is the most common cause of a lapse, and the failure notice goes to the same place as everything else.
- A contact address that survives someone leaving. Not a personal address, and not an address at the domain that is expiring.
- The renewal date recorded somewhere other than the registrar's email, because that is the channel that failed.
