Renewing
- Sign in and select the domain from your list.
- Renewal is on the Overview tab.
- Auto-renew is a toggle on the same page.
Transfer lock
Under the Overview tab, labelled Domain lock. On by default.
Moving the notices somewhere safe
Under Contacts for the domain. Hover includes WHOIS privacy at no cost.
Worth knowing about Hover
Hover has good defaults and a clean interface, which means fewer of the configuration problems that turn up elsewhere. The usual risk here is a single account with no second contact.
The three that actually prevent a lapse
- A payment card that is current. An expired card with auto-renew on is the most common cause of a lapse, and the failure notice goes to the same place as everything else.
- A contact address that survives someone leaving. Not personal, and not at the domain that is expiring.
- The renewal date recorded somewhere other than the registrar's email, because that is the channel that failed.
