Everything below is in the Shopify admin.
Renewing
- Sign in to the admin and open Settings, then Domains.
- Select the domain and check the renewal date.
- Auto-renew is on by default and configured on the same page.
Transfer lock
Shopify manages the lock automatically for domains registered with them.

Worth knowing about Shopify Domains
A Shopify-registered domain is tied to the store. If the store is closed or paused, the domain arrangement needs handling separately — this is the most common way merchants lose a domain they thought was safe.
The three that actually prevent a lapse
- A payment card that is current. An expired card with auto-renew on is the most common cause of a lapse, and the failure notice goes to the same place as everything else.
- A contact address that survives someone leaving. Not personal, and not at the domain that is expiring.
- The renewal date recorded somewhere other than the registrar's email, because that is the channel that failed.
